Too often, people think of work as just that – work. They look at others who are passionate about their jobs with a slightly envious attitude, which is understandable. However, being passionate about what you do is one of the most important things. However, if you do not have passionate leadership, then employees will most likely fail to find their own passions and that is bad for organizations as a whole. It goes without saying that the best leaders inspire others. That inspiration is rooted in passion.
I was very lucky to find my inspiration many years ago and it was due to meeting a very special individual when I was in college. I had come to a point in my life where I had to make some important decisions.
It was a confusing time because certain things were expected of me after I graduated from college. After all, my family had sent me to college so that I would find a good job. I did get a job offer from a bank but felt that this would not be the right decision for me. The only thing I was certain about was that I wanted to help others. I just didn’t know how to reach that point.
It is at this time when I met a photographer from England who was visiting India. It was the conversations and discussions that I had with this lifelong friend that would change the course of my life. The reason I connected with him so deeply was because of his passionate views and the guidance he gave me.
If the same advice was given to me by someone who was not inspirational, I doubt I would have taken him or her seriously. It was the information that was coming from deep inside my friend’s soul that made a lasting impact on me.
My friend’s passion eventually transferred to me. I was truly inspired to make a difference and I knew that I could not do it by sitting behind a desk in a bank. Turning my vision into reality also needed passion, so I had to work to inspire others.
My organization would not be where it is today without inspiration and passion. It is because of the passion that I am where I am today. I only hope that I can inspire others to follow their hearts.
