Every person on earth has the ability and capability to do great things. Problems arise because these very people may not have the support or means to do so. This is where we can all help. Encouraging others to reach their full potential is a noble and valuable way to help people reach their full potential. When watching the news, it seems like there are so many problems in the world. It is true that the global community is facing difficult situations but the solution lies in all of us. In other words, there are many talented people out there who just need a little confidence in order to help to begin solve these problems.
Many years back, when deciding what I wanted to do with my life, the one thing I knew for certain was that I wanted to help people. No matter what career I would choose, it had to involve the betterment of society.
My path led me to carpets and helping those who make these beautiful works of art. After I completed my education, I had two choices – unlike many of my classmates, who had no options.
I was offered a job at a bank or I could work at my father’s shop. But neither appealed to me because I did not believe that these two options would allow me to help others, which was my dream.
Fortunately, I had a mentor who opened my eyes to a whole new world. This friend, who was visiting India from England, encouraged me to follow my own path and to do what my heart was saying. With this encouragement and support, I rejected steady employment. I broke with tradition and did not follow my father into his ready-made business.
Listening to my friend and having his supportive words changed my life forever. I was inspired and excited to forge my own way and to make sure that I was helping as many people as possible during my journey.
I am grateful that my friend saw something in me that I did not recognize. It took someone else’s view of me to lead me to this vision of trying to improve others’ lives. I often wonder what would have happened had I played it safe and took the bank job or if I worked with my father. What would my life be like?
While there are no guarantees, I am almost positive that had I decided to take no chances, I would not have the satisfaction and pride that I have today in the fact that I am able to run a successful business while at the same time helping those in needs.
I feel so blessed and lucky in that I am able to do work that I love and provide employment, education and other help to those who need it the most. We should all be so lucky and we can, with a little help.
